About the Opportunity
Working a 2:2 FIFO roster from Perth, Altrad is seeking an experienced Welding Inspector to support the Rio Tinto Tom Price Phase III Structural Remediation Project.
Leveraging your expertise in welding inspection, non‑destructive testing, and quality assurance, you will ensure all welding works comply with Australian and international standards, project specifications, and safety requirements.
This role provides the opportunity to safeguard structural integrity, minimise downtime, and contribute to high‑quality project delivery through rigorous inspection and proactive problem‑solving.
Responsibilities
* Perform visual and non‑destructive weld inspections (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT) to ensure compliance with project standards.
* Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
* Monitor and verify compliance with welding codes, engineering drawings, and project specifications.
* Document inspection results, prepare detailed reports, and maintain accurate welding records.
* Collaborate with maintenance teams, engineers, and contractors to resolve welding‑related issues.
* Assist in root cause analysis for welding defects and support corrective/preventive action plans.
* Conduct welding audits and contribute to on‑site welding training programs.
* Ensure all welding operations adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies.
About you
* Diploma or Certificate IV in Welding Technology, NDT, or equivalent; CWI or equivalent certification highly desirable.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Welding Inspector, preferably in mining or heavy industry.
* Strong knowledge of welding codes and standards (AS/NZS 1554, ASME Section IX, API 1104, etc.).
* Experienced in non‑destructive testing (NDT) methods and interpreting inspection results.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures, and specifications.
