Are you currently working as a Care Assistant and looking for a new environment where your compassion and experience can make a meaningful difference?
Do you want a role that allows you to support vulnerable young people while gaining valuable experience for a future career in social care or social work?

We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants for a specialist education setting in West Drayton. The school supports children and young people with autism, communication differences, sensory needs and learning disabilities. You will be part of a structured and supportive team working to help pupils build independence, communication skills, and confidence.

Whether you have years of experience in care or you are a recent graduate exploring pathways into social work, this role allows you to use your empathy and patience to create a positive impact every day.

Why this role is ideal for Care Assistants and Aspiring Social Workers

This position offers direct exposure to the type of work carried out in social care and education support roles. You will learn how to:

1. Advocate for young people who may struggle to communicate their needs
2. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including teachers, therapists and external specialists
3. Support behaviour and emotional regulation using calm, person-centred strategies
4. Recognise safeguarding concerns and escalate appropriately

You will gain insight into the realities of working with vulnerable individuals. This helps you understand whether social work, family support or education support is the right long-term direction for you. Many candidates find that this experience either confirms their passion or helps them decide what type of role they don’t want—which is equally valuable.

Your day-to-day responsibilities

5. Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis throughout the school day
6. Encouraging independence, communication and positive behaviour
7. Assisting with personal care, feeding or mobility needs (training provided)
8. Helping pupils regulate emotions and engage with learning in a calm environment
9. Supporting therapy-led activities and following individual education/support plans
10. Working collaboratively with teachers and therapists to meet pupil needs

Your presence and support can make a genuine difference to a young person who needs stability, patience and encouragement.

We would love to hear from you if you have:

11. Experience as a Care Assistant, Support Worker or in another role supporting vulnerable individuals (paid or voluntary)
12. A sincere desire to help children and young people thrive
13. Patience, resilience and emotional maturity
14. Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
15. Willingness to assist with personal care when required

School experience is not essential. Your care experience and compassion are what matter most.

Full training is provided.

By the end of your placement, you will have real clarity about your strengths and future path—whether that’s social work, care, or another form of support work.
