The role
We are working with a well-established 11–18 secondary school in Northumberland to recruit a Behaviour Support Assistant to support pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, and barriers to learning. This is a hands-on role suited to someone confident supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom.
The school has strong behaviour systems, a clear pastoral structure, and a proactive approach to inclusion and pupil wellbeing.

Responsibilities
8. Support pupils with behaviour and emotional regulation needs
9. Work 1:1 or in small groups to re-engage pupils in learning
10. De-escalate challenging situations and promote positive behaviour
11. Support pupils in lessons, interventions, and alternative spaces
12. Liaise with pastoral staff, SEN teams, and teaching staff
The ideal candidate
13. Experience in education, youth work, care, security, or similar settings
14. Confident supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
15. Calm, resilient, and consistent approach
16. Strong communication and relationship-building skills
17. Open to day-to-day or long-term placements

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
