Job overview

On behalf of the Manager the post holder is responsible for the day-to-day operational issues within designated area of responsibility to ensure the Service Group delivers on its key targets & priorities in a safe, sustainable and effective environment.


Main duties of the job

Ensure effective communications, in line with the Health Board’s Communication Strategy.

Develop and maintain good working relationships with the Lead Clinician and Senior Nurses.

Develop and maintain good working relationships with non-clinical staff at all levels both within and outside the Health Board.

Attend and participate in regular meetings Hospital meetings, as required.

Investigate and resolve verbal and written enquiries/complaints.

Manage Job Planning process for junior medical staff.

Lead on the day-to-day delivery of operational clinical services.

Provide direct support to the Lead Clinicians in the management of demand for and supply of capacity on a day-to-day basis.

Day to day management of staff within area of responsibility e.g. initial stages of grievance, discipline and sickness management.

Ensure that the PDR process is delivered in line with A4C requirements.

Responsible for medical agency invoicing within the specialty area.

Designated responsibility for authorisation of all appropriate non-stock orders and subsequent invoices for specialty services, within agreed financial limits.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Recognised management qualification i.e. ISM
2. ISM Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience.
3. Service Improvement qualification (Bronze)
4. Knowledge of effective operational management.
5. Knowledge change and development.

Desirable criteria

6. Service Improvement qualification (Silver)

Essential Experience

Essential criteria

7. Supervisory experience.
8. Extensive previous experience of working with health finance systems.

Desirable criteria

9. Proven track record of effective operational delivery.
10. Evidence of implementation service changes and developments to ensure that legal, professional and service requirements are met.
11. Ability to work autonomously and equally effectively as part of a team.
12. Evidence of managing change and service planning capabilities.
13. Highly developed leadership, motivation negotiation and consultation skills
