The EU Public Policy Subject Expert Team provides specialised policy advice on key public policy topics. TikTok's mission is to protect our community and ensure that TikTok remains a safe and welcoming space for creative and joyful self-expression. As a Public Policy Manager focused on combatting illegal content, violent extremism and terrorism, including radicalisation (behaviours and organisations), gender-based violence, hate, and human exploitation, you'll play a crucial role in advancing our policies and safety tools to address these critical issues. Responsibilities Policy Development & Advocacy: - Develop and execute a comprehensive European public policy strategy to combatting illegal content, violent extremism and terrorism. - Monitor, analyze, and respond to evolving regulations, proposed legislation, and international standards regarding illegal content, violent extremism and terrorism. - Advocate for the company’s policy positions in discussions with policymakers, media, industry groups, and civil society organizations to help shape effective policy. - Collaborate with colleagues to create and implement company positions, campaigns, and materials related to combatting the spread of this content Stakeholder Engagement: - Build and maintain strong relationships with a network of European stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, academic experts, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to stay ahead of new thinking and key policy trends. - Partner with researchers and experts to deepen our understanding of illegal content, violent extremism and terrorism. - Advocate for the company’s policy positions in discussions with policymakers, media, industry groups, and civil society organizations. Internal Collaboration: - Provide strategic insights to cross-functional teams and leadership on emerging policy trends and their potential impact on our business. - Partner with cross-functional teams, including legal, trust & safety, communications, and product teams, to help shape company policies, improve reporting mechanisms, and implement action plans for combating illegal content, violent extremism and terrorism. Monitoring & Reporting: - Track and evaluate trends related to illegal content, violent extremism and terrorism. - Provide regular updates and reports on developments in the regulatory landscape, emerging threats, and the thoroughness of the company’s content moderation policies. External Communications & Public Relations: - Support media relations and public communication efforts, ensuring the company’s commitment to combatting illegal content, violent extremism and terrorism is effectively communicated. - Support key external partners to develop educational campaigns on TikTok designed to stop the spread of this kind of content. Education & Thought Leadership: - Lead educational efforts both internally and externally regarding TikTok's efforts to combat illegal content, violent extremism and terrorism. - Represent the company at conferences, forums, and industry discussions focused on these topics.
Minimum Qualifications - 5+ years of experience working on public policy related to tackling online harm, particularly in the areas of hate speech, radicalisation, and terrorist content. - Deep expertise and understanding of key policy trends in this field across Europe. - A strong network within the European community of experts and organisations working to counter online extremism. - Exceptional communication skills. - Experience in a spokesperson role, representing an organisation to external audiences, including media. - The ability to direct and inform the organisation's strategy based on new research and trends in the field of illegal content and violent extremism and terrorism. Preferred Qualifications - The ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and work effectively with cross-functional teams. - Experience working on academic research focused on combatting illegal content and violent extremism and terrorism online.
