Senior Grounds Supervisor

Department: Estates Division – Workplace Services
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent (36.5 hours per week)
Salary & Benefits
1. Salary: £31,236 – £35,608 per annum
2. Pay Supplement: Additional 2.5% on base salary
3. Annual Leave: 36 days including public holidays (increasing with service)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Grounds Supervisor to support the Grounds Maintenance Manager in overseeing operations across a diverse and prestigious estate.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining team supervision with practical grounds maintenance duties. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards, ensuring safety, and contributing to environmental sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
9. Supervising and supporting a team of Grounds Supervisors, Operatives, and temporary staff
10. Carrying out hands-on grounds maintenance (grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting, spraying, and weeding)
11. Ensuring all sites are maintained to a high standard, creating safe and well-presented environments
12. Supporting environmental, biodiversity, and sustainability initiatives
13. Conducting risk assessments and ensuring full compliance with health & safety procedures
14. Managing seasonal duties, including leaf clearance and winter gritting
The Ideal Candidate
Essential:
15. Horticultural qualification (HNC level or equivalent)
16. PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates
17. Full clean UK driving licence (including towing capability)
18. Proven experience supervising teams within grounds maintenance
19. Strong plant knowledge and horticultural expertise
20. Good IT skills (Microsoft Office, databases, CAFM systems)
21. Excellent communication and organisational skills
Desirable:
22. IOSH Health & Safety qualification
23. Basic tree inspection certification
24. Forklift licence
