Welfare Officer – Outstanding Secondary School, Leeds

This is a well-established 11–18 Outstanding Ofsted-rated secondary school in Leeds with a strong commitment to safeguarding, student wellbeing and inclusive practice. The school serves a diverse urban community and is widely recognised for its calm, respectful culture and high expectations of behaviour and achievement. Students are polite, motivated and supported to thrive both academically and personally.

The school delivers a broad and balanced curriculum alongside a strong pastoral framework that prioritises mental health, attendance, safeguarding and emotional wellbeing. Staff work closely together across teaching, pastoral and support teams to ensure every student feels safe, supported and able to succeed. The leadership team places significant emphasis on staff wellbeing, training and collaborative working.

Pastoral & Welfare Team:
The welfare team plays a vital role in the daily life of the school and works closely with safeguarding leads, attendance officers, SEN staff and external agencies. The team supports students facing social, emotional or personal challenges and provides early intervention to remove barriers to learning.

The Welfare Officer will be a key point of contact for students and families, offering day-to-day support, guidance and signposting. The role involves managing welfare referrals, supporting students in crisis, liaising with parents and coordinating with outside professionals such as CAMHS, social services and youth support organisations.

Requirements
• Experience working with children or young people in a pastoral, welfare or support role
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to build trust with students and families
• Calm, empathetic and professional approach
• Strong organisational skills and ability to maintain confidential records
