Job Description

Edge of Care Worker - Young Croydon

Salary: Grade 9 £42,060-£43,680

Permanent - 36 hours per week

Hybrid working (3 office / 2 home)

Edge of Care is for:

Children and young people who are at imminent risk of becoming looked after

Children and young people who have been made subject to police protection and where the care plan is for reunification

Children and young people who have unexpected come into care after a crisis/breakdown

For reunification of children and young people where the plan is for them to return home

Job Purpose

To deliver intensive, targeted and quick response high quality edge of care interventions for children and families with the aim of keeping children at home where possible, avoiding family breakdown and assisting with reunification using the London Borough of Croydon 'Get Back Home' reunification protocol.

To assess individual needs, focusing on strengths and enable change by engaging and working with children, young people and their families/carers. To provide targeted interventions to support children and young people remaining at home or returning home and ensuring that changes are sustained for positive long-term outcomes.

About You

We are looking for an experienced worker who can demonstrate their experience in engaging with children, young people and their families within a home environment and of enabling them to remain at home or return home in a planned and safe way. Proven experience of recognising and reducing risk factors in a planned way, including experience of assessing, planning and delivering effective interventions for children, young people and families.

Essential Requirements

Relevant qualification / experience in working with children and/or young people
Knowledge of the principles of edge of care interventions, including supporting parents to understand adolescent risk and child development
Working knowledge of issues relating to children, young people and families living in Croydon, including children going missing, exploitation, gangs and offending
Understanding of the contextual safeguarding and risk 'outside of the home'
Able to engage and develop effective professional relationships with children, young people and their families/carers and other professionals in order to achieve sustainable positive outcomes
Ability to identify, assess and determine individual plans based on strengths for families focussed on children remaining within the home, or returning home safely using reunification priniples
Skilled in developing and delivering targeted interventions that reduce risk and vulnerability for adolescents where there is risk 'outside of the home'.
