Human Resources Assistant
£25,000 - £27,000 per annum, Burgess Hill outskirts (own transport necessary), 37.5 hours Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00, Fixed Term Contract maternity cover, 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, benefits package
The Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Human Resources Assistant to join a caring and values‑led organisation on a fixed‑term maternity cover basis (min 12 months). Reporting to the Human Resources Director and working closely with the HR Advisor, the Human Resources Assistant will provide a professional, efficient and customer‑focused HR administration service, supporting the full employee lifecycle with a strong focus on recruitment and onboarding. This is a full‑time, office‑based role offering a varied workload where no two days are the same.
Providing end‑to‑end recruitment administration, including managing applications, organising interviews and candidate communication
Supporting safer recruitment practices in line with CQC requirements
Preparing offer letters, contracts of employment and new starter documentation
Processing DBS checks, right to work checks and pre‑employment documentation
Obtaining and reviewing employment references, escalating concerns where required
Supporting induction processes alongside the HR Advisor
Maintaining accurate and compliant employee records in line with GDPR requirements
Supporting the transition from paper‑based to digital HR records
Preparing HR documentation including contractual changes, probation reviews and leaver administration
Acting as a first point of contact for HR queries by phone and email
Requirements
The successful Human Resources Assistant will have previous experience in an HR or administration‑based role, ideally with exposure to recruitment or employee lifecycle processes. You will be highly organised, detail‑focused and comfortable handling confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Strong written and verbal communication skills and confidence using Microsoft Office applications are essential. A calm and methodical approach to managing a varied workload will be key. This role could suit someone who has worked as an HR Administrator, People Administrator or HR Support Officer.
