* Neonatal Services at UHS are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a patient-focused, compassionate, and dynamic leader to join the Senior Nursing Team.
* As a senior leader within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), you will play a key role in the daily operational management of the department, clinically coordinating the unit within a 24/7 service, and leading, supporting, and mentoring a diverse and skilled team.

Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Southampton Neonatal Services have recently expanded to include a new Special Care Baby Unit, alongside increased High Dependency (HDU) and Intensive Care (ICU) capacity.
* Provide line management for a team of neonatal nurses, conduct appraisals, 1:1 meetings, manage attendance and performance.
* Carry the Nurse in Charge bleep, taking operational responsibility for ITU and HDU areas of the Neonatal Unit.
* Oversee staffing levels and patient flow across the Woodland Ward Special Care area and Transitional Care.
* Act as a role model, demonstrate behaviours reflecting the Trust values, fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for staff, patients, and families.
* Work closely with the Matron team to uphold and enhance the high standards of care, safety, and culture across the service.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience
Essential Criteria
* 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
* Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
* Degree or working towards
* Completion of appropriate specialty Course
* Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice
* Extensive experience in specialty including considerable experience at Band 6 level
* Evidence of clinical leadership ability
* Proven management experience
* Evidence of continuing professional developmentEvidence of utilising evidence in practice
* Logical and consistent career pattern
* Expert clinical skills
* Ability to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives
* Ability to work flexible hours and fulfil service requirements
Desirable Criteria
* Management Course (or equivalent)
* Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor
* Evidence of staff development and succession planning
* Broad range of post registration experience
* Experience of report writing
