Neurological Occupational Therapist - Intensive Community Rehab

Due to the continued expansion of Hobbs services, an exciting role has arisen for an enthusiastic Neurological Occupational Therapist to join our established multidicsiplinary therapy team at Hobbs Rehabilitation, the largest independent provider of specialist neurological rehabilitation to adults in the south of England. We are looking for someone with excellent clinical skills and experience in neurological rehabilitation across the clinical pathway, including assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning. This role would be suited to someone looking to further develop their existing skills in adult Neurology.


Main duties of the job

This role will be based in our intensive residential and community rehabilitation service, located in Ferndown, Dorset. Hobbs' experienced MDT works in partnership with Accomplish, a provider of specialist short-term residential placements for adults with complex needs, providing goal-focused neurological rehabilitation to adults recovering from a range of conditions including Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injuries and Spinal Injuries. There may be the opportunity for outpatient work alongside the residential caseload, as well as working alongside therapists at other local Hobbs clinics, including regular joint working with our inpatient service in Salisbury. Supervision and training will be provided, as well as access to exciting CPD opportunities, working with cutting-edge neurotechnologies and involvement in national and global research projects.

In 2005, neuro physiotherapists Helen Hobbs and Nicky Ellis set up Hobbs Rehabilitation and since then it has expanded rapidly offering an exceptional level of personalised skill and expertise. Now operating from various locations across the south of England, Hobbs Rehabilitation provides specialist inpatient and outpatient neurological and amputee rehabilitation for adults and children across the south of England, treating a wide variety of conditions, including stroke, acquired brain injury, spinal cord injuries, and poly-trauma and amputees. An expert team of over 100 therapists, including OT, PT, SLT and Psychology, provide an interdisciplinary patient-centred neuro rehabilitation service, ensuring the individual is placed at the centre of care. We are passionate about pursuing the latest advances in research and technology to support our clients and staff to achieve their full potential, through involvement in research projects, development of services using advanced technology, and support for training and CPD. Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

* Assessing patients with acquired physical and cognitive impairments using a range of formal and informal assessments.
* Practice safely within the legal and ethical boundaries of the profession.
* Formulate patient-centred goals in conjunction with MDT.
* Create and provide one-to-one intervention to patients with acquired physical and cognitive impairments, using a comprehensive knowledge of evidence-informed practice and treatment options.
* Evaluate patients progress using published outcome measures.
* Liaising regularly with the Hobbs MDT and wider care team.
* Organise and plan the Occupational therapy caseload in Dorset in conjunction with the service lead and other clinical team members to meet the patients and service needs, readjusting plans as situations change or arise.
* Maintain up-to-date and accurate clinical notes using site-specific software and local procedures.
* Write high-quality patient reports, including MDT discharge reports for inpatients.
* Attend and contribute to patient and family meetings, both face-to-face and via video.

Skills & Experience

* Recognised Occupational Therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
* HCPC registration.
* Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy
* Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment approaches relating to acquired neurological conditions.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience of working as an integrated member of a multidisciplinary team.
* Neurological rehabilitation experience across the clinical pathway.
* Commitment to developing self and others through training, supervision and mentoring.
* Innovative and creative thinking with vision to improve and develop services for the future.
* Confidence engaging with local community services including facilitating patients within the community.
* Ability to work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of the service.
* Experience of Neurological splinting and work with spinal cord injuries would be a bonus

The successful candidate must have a full clean driving licence and be prepared to travel to training and community visits.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Recognised Degree in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration
* RCOT membership


Knowledge and Skills

* Excellent written and verbal clinical communication skills
* Ability to drive and full clean driving licence
* Basic IT skills appropriate for clinical practice


Experience

* Experience working within an MDT
* Experience of working as an OT within an adult neuro caseload
* Experience of assessment, diagnosis, therapy planning and discharge management with adults with neurological conditions
* Further training in specialist areas such as splinting, upper limb management or cognitive rehab
