JOB TITLE: Teacher - Post-Primary
REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
This job description outlines the responsibilities and expectations for teachers under the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5.
General Professional Duties
A teacher (not a principal) shall carry out professional duties as required:
* Under the reasonable direction of the school principal if employed in a school;
* Under the reasonable direction of the employing board and the principal of any school where they are required to work if employed by a board on flexible terms.
Particular Duties
Teachers shall perform duties reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including planning, teaching, assessment, student guidance, and participation in meetings.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Planning: Prepare courses, lessons, and assess student progress.
2. General: Promote student well-being, provide guidance, communicate with parents, and cooperate with external bodies.
3. Assessment/Reporting: Contribute to assessments, reports, and references.
4. Staff Development: Participate in training, review teaching methods, and assist in curriculum development.
5. Discipline/Health & Safety: Maintain order, safeguard health and safety, and participate in school meetings.
6. Public Examinations: Prepare students for exams, assess, and supervise during exams.
7. Management & Administration: Contribute to staff recruitment, manage colleagues, and assist in school management activities.
8. Working Hours: Full-time teachers are expected to work 195 days per year, with specific hours and breaks outlined.
9. Staff Cover: Provide cover for absent teachers as specified.

Person Specification
Applicants must demonstrate, via their application, that they meet the essential and desirable criteria, including qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and values aligned with the school's ethos.
Essential criteria include holding a recognized teaching qualification, a degree in Mathematics, registration with GTCNI, and experience teaching Key Stage 3 and 4 Mathematics. Additional criteria will be assessed during interviews.
