Below is a standard job description and person specification for our Social Care Worker post.
Key purpose of post
The key purpose of this post is to contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the service, within St Denys policies and practices. These duties are to be carried out in the context of St Denys value system and in compliance with the best of care practice and as outlined in the General Social Care Council’s Code of Conduct for Social-Care Workers.
This post reports to the Registered Manager and Proprietors.
The Social-Care Worker is expected to demonstrate the following competencies in carrying out his/her duties:
Responsibilities
* Support people who use the service
* Work with Service Users in a way that promotes their equality, diversity and rights.
* Develop professional relationships with the people that use the service and establish and maintain effective communication with them.
* Obtain information about people who use the service, assess their needs and contribute to the planning about how these needs can be met, passing information to others on a need-to-know basis only.
* Contribute to the wellbeing and safeguard of the people using the services.
* Contribute to team work
* Make a positive contribution to and work constructively within the team.
* Contribute to the development of others in the team.
* Develop your own abilities to enhance work performance.
* Contribute to activities
* Work in a way that ensures the service is delivered in compliance with relevant legislation, St Denys’s values, policies and practices and contractual requirements.
* Keep appropriate records of work and communications and file them appropriately.
* Promote, monitor and maintain health and safety and security in the workplace.
* Respect confidentiality
* Any information relating to service-users acquired in the course of duty must be treated in the strictest confidence and discussed only within the house with the appropriate members of staff.
* Any information relating to staff acquired in the course of duty must be treated in the strictest confidence and discussed only with the Registered Manager or, in his or her absence, with the most senior staff member on duty.

Essential
The ability to work evenings, nights, weekends.
Experience and expertise are important but not essential; employees can be trained, good character, a positive and proactive attitude towards learning and care is what we value the most.
Rates are normally discussed during interviews; however, once shortlisted, if the candidate wishes to know the hourly rate that we can offer, this information will be supplied to future potential employees so that they can study if they would be interested or no.
Specific daily tasks
* Cooking
* Cleaning
* Administration of prescribed medication (not nursing SO NOT INVASIVE)
(All new members of staff, regardless their experience and training are fully trained before they can administer medication)
* Participation in the reviews and elaboration of care plans and risk assessments
* Attend appointments with service users that present this need and wishes to be accompanied
* Support inhouse and outside activities.
* To assist/help/guide… Service User’s needs including hygiene needs.
* Bed changing and bed making.
* Laundry
* Answer the phone and comply with managerial guidance regarding the management of phone calls.
* Quality time with Service Users, usually when allocated as a key worker, e.g. going shopping, going to activities etc.
