Job summary

The new Southwest Brachial Plexus Team (SWePT) is a new entity established at North Bristol NHS Trust and regionally commissioned by the Southwest NHS. This service will be centre for a hub and spoke model of highly specialist, clinical/academic, brachial plexus care for the region.

This post is within the Orthopaedic and Trauma directorate and will be working closely with wider surgical and allied health professionals. The clinical team will be made up of two consultant Surgeons and consultant Therapist with specified therapy, neurophysiology and administration colleagues, and will be based at Southmead Hospital.

As a specialist serviceSWePT is looking for a clinical-academic surgeon with fellowship training in brachial plexus surgical care, from any relevant surgical background. This role would suit an individual who is looking for a less than full time role to support work in other areas; such an individual may be engaged in formal funded research activity (ideally in the nerve compression/regeneration field) and be looking for a clinical commitment to integrate alongside their clinical academic practice.

The successful applicant will join asan equal consultant member of the SWePT service. This post is a permanent 4PA contract. The role will require an individual who is willing to working with and support the development of a regional service and advance its team-working, multidisciplinary ethos of clinical provision, audit and research identity.

North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) wishes to appoint a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in Brachial Plexus. The candidate should have fellowship experience in this field. This post is a part time 4 PA position.

Individuals wishing to apply must be registered Medical Practitioners (with a licence to practice) and on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible to be on the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee.

The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.
