Team Leader / Driver / Street Cleansing Operative An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and passionate operations team, To assist the Street Cleansing Supervisor in the day to day running of the Street Cleansing Department, including delegation of work, Staff compliance with Health and Safety and risk assessments, Making sure that staff complete the required paperwork, Monitor vehicle condition and cleanliness, Quality control inspections or any other duties that will assist Operational Services Management. Direct Supervision of operatives in the absence of the Street Cleansing Supervisor. Reporting to the Operational Services Management any problems identified in connection with Street Cleansing Operations. This may include working in an office environment, using basic IT systems (word, excel, outlook etc), telephones and printers as required. You will also be required to use mobile tablet computers and smart phones to access and monitor the council’s online reporting system and provide work updates to staff and customers as needed To give advice and guidance and on the job training to other staff as required to meet the service objectives Undertake environmental street cleansing activities such as mechanical and manual sweeping, clearance and removal of litter, silt, leaves, weeds and any other foreign materials from pavements, precincts, road surfaces, grass verges, flower beds and any other land as required by Operational Services Management. • The post holder will be required to hold a current UK driving licence with a minimum of class B, BE, C1 categories and no more than six penalty points. The applicant should also hold a chemical application license such as, NPTC, PA1, PA6A or be prepared to obtain a chemical application license within 12 months of starting the position and be competent in reading and understanding the chemical label, calibrating the applicator, mixing the chemical solution and applying the chemical at the correct dosage. The main chemicals used by the Street Cleansing section will be Glyphosate based weed killers. (Please see attached JD & PS for further details). • The work also includes removing and disposing of unpleasant and disagreeable items including emptying of litter and dog foul bins, removing faeces and working outdoors in all weather conditions. • Using hand tools and mechanical equipment to cut hedges, strim grass, cut back vegetation, clear weeds or undertake any other suitable work as and when required by the Street scene Management. • Observe and follow all appropriate safe working practices, ensure compliance with relevant legislation and assist the Street scene management by promptly bringing to their notice any work/hazard which could result in injury to persons or damage to equivalent or property. Co-operate with the Council’s Health & Safety Officer and Street scene management regarding health and safety matters. • Complete all necessary timesheets, vehicle check sheets, defect report sheets and other documentation as required by the Streetscene management, Department of Transport, Health & Safety Executive and Department of the Environment. • The normal working week will consist of working Saturday’s on a Rota basis (normally once in every 10 weeks), there may also be a requirement to work additional Saturday’s as and when required to provide cover for Holidays and Sickness. If you are unable to work your planned Saturday due to Holiday Requests it will be your responsibility to arrange cover with colleagues before your holiday is authorized.
