Highway Works Manager – Lead the Way in Safer, Smarter Streets\nLocation: Derby City Centre\n\nSalary: £20.48 per hour\n\nType: Full-time, 07.45 – 15.45hrs| Temporary Contract\n\nAre you a driven leader with a passion for making roads safer, more efficient, and future-ready?\n\nBecky at JT Recruit is looking to appoint an experienced Highway Works Manager to take the reins of a dynamic frontline operational team, overseeing the daily delivery of vital highway maintenance and capital works.\n\nThis is more than just a management role – it’s a chance to shape infrastructure, inspire teams, and implement innovative solutions that keeps Derby’s community moving.\n\nWhat You’ll Be Doing:\n\n * Leading a skilled team of operatives, gangers, and apprentices – plus managing contractors and agency staff.\n\n * Allocating vehicles, equipment, and resources each day to deliver both planned and emergency works.\n\n * Ensuring all works meet high standards of safety, compliance, and quality.\n\n * Quoting and costing schemes using pricing matrices to help clients make smart, timely decisions.\n\n * Managing standby rotas and supervising out-of-hours operations including winter maintenance.\n\n * Using specialist asset systems and digital tools to distribute work and track progress.\n\n * Driving innovation in materials, methods, and delivery to boost productivity and value.\n\nWhat You’ll Bring:\n\n * Proven leadership experience in highways or a similar operational setting.\n\n * Strong knowledge of highway legislation, health and safety, and asset management principles.\n\n * Confidence in working independently on-site and in engaging with senior stakeholders.\n\n * A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to handle performance and productivity challenges.\n\n * IT literacy, including use of MS Office and asset management platforms.\n\nWhy Apply?\n\nYou'll be part of an organisation committed to progress, sustainability, and service excellence.
