Field Technician
This role encompasses the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and support of digital & analogue electronic monitoring systems incorporated to rail service and passenger vehicles.
This post will involve some travel throughout the UK, generally Mondays to Fridays. Weekend and unsocial hours working will also be required on occasion.
Working hours will be flexible based on the nature of access to vehicles throughout UK locations.
The full use of pool vehicles to undertake duties where applicable and required.
Knowledge of Health and Safety policies, standards, safe practices, and procedures within the rail environment.
Accountabilities
1. Provide the first line of maintenance for our service products and systems. Inspect, prioritise, and maintain solutions to the highest operational standards.
2. Respond to customer inquiries and assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues associated with our products and services. Conduct and offer technical solutions for customers' queries.
3. Evaluate and prioritize customer support cases. Communicate and resolve customers' queries via phone, email, live chat, and face-to-face meetings.
4. Attend rail depots throughout the UK or occasionally worldwide to repair faulty train borne systems and commission new or existing systems or products.
5. Track and manage work record using Atlassian -Jira or similar fault tracking tools.
6. Prepare accurate and timely reports both for internal use and external customers.
7. Actively part of a On Call rota in supporting customer enquiries and systems queries.
8. Update and coordinate serviceable documentation improvement initiatives through existing revisions and evolution of the general role tasks and daily activities.
9. Work with all internal groups Customer Strategy, Engineering, Product / Project Management and Health and Safety.
Personal Qualities & Experience
The following qualities and experience are essential:
10. A minimum of 2 years experience as a Field Engineer, Systems Support Engineer, or similar role.
11. Formal Qualification in electronics, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or equivalent subject.
12. Good understanding of electronics systems and electrical installations on rail vehicles or similar.
13. Ability to read Schematics and circuit diagrams, produce and follow technical instructional documentation.
14. Experience in the use of test equipment, including multi-meters and oscilloscopes.
15. Ability to work under pressure & the capability to prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance and the commitment to achieve a timely resolution
16. Critical thinker and problem-solving skills with the motivation and ability to learn new skills and technologies
17. Strong awareness of on-site safety and critical workplace, experience in the rail environment.

Desirable
21. Extensive knowledge of Omnicom Balfour Beatty Products and Services to Network Rail.
22. Ability to build and configure workstation & server/computer systems and applications.
23. Knowledge of Windows and Unix/Linux environment and platforms and adept at using a
24. PC Interface (laptop) to configure software applications.
25. Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and serial communications protocols (RS232/RS422/RS485)
26. Knowledge/understanding of the following technologies: GPS/IMUs/Accelerometers/Lasers and Cameras.
27. Previous Rail PTS (Personal Track Safety) experience preferred but not essential.
