Position: Recycling Attendant Location: Newtownards Contract: Full-time/Temporary – Covering Long Term SickHours: 36 hours per weekAbout the Role
We’re looking for a dependable, customer-centric recycling attendant to join our team and help keep our site running safely, efficiently, and sustainably. You’ll be the friendly face that supports residents, ensures materials are sorted correctly, and helps maintain a clean, reorganised recycling environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide guidance to the public on correct recycling and well-disposed of procedures
2. Monitor site safety and ensure all users follow site rules.
3. Keep the site clean, tidy, and free from hazards
4. Assist with the movement, sorting, and loading of recyclable materials
5. Report contamination, misuse, or safety concerns promptly.
6. Operate equipment and machinery (training provided)
7. Deliver excellent customer service and represent the site professionally.

Essential Experience & Skills
To be considered for this role, applicants must have:
17. At least one year’s paid experience of outdoor manual work in all weather conditions
18. At least one year’s paid experience dealing with contractors and/or customers
19. Experience using Microsoft Office packages (, Outlook, Word, Excel)
20. Experience operating electronic devices such as mobile phones or tablets
21. At least one year’s experience operating electrical or mechanical equipment or plant in a work environment
22. Applicants must be available to work outside normal working hours or to work at other sites within the Borough if required.
23. Appointment will be subject to satisfactorypletion of a medical questionnaire, including a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
Desirable
24. A relevant qualification in waste management
25. GCSE in English and Mathematics (grade C or above) or equivalent
26. A Health and Safety related qualification
27. At least two years’ experience in paid employment of outdoor manual work in all weather conditions
28. At least two years’ experience in paid employment of dealing with contractors and/or customers
29. Experience working within a waste and/or recycling environment
30. Experience ofpleting record sheets and recording incidents in the workplace
31. Experience of keepingputerised records
32. Experience of Health and Safety practices associated with carrying out waste disposal and recycling activities
