Job Title: Caretaker Location: Newcastle Salary: £13 – £17 per hour (depending on experience) Start Date: Immediate Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time Are you a reliable and hardworking individual with experience in site maintenance and school facilities? GSL Education are currently seeking dedicated and proactive Caretakers to work in schools across Newcastle. This rewarding role involves ensuring the smooth day-to-day maintenance and operation of school premises. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities of a Caretaker: Carry out general maintenance and basic repairs across the school site Ensure the school premises are clean, safe, and secure at all times Open and lock school buildings when required Conduct regular health and safety checks Support with setting up rooms and facilities for school activities and events Monitor and report any maintenance or site issues Manage cleaning supplies and site equipment where necessary Work collaboratively with school staff and external contractors Requirements of a Caretaker: Previous experience in a caretaker, site assistant, or maintenance role is desirable Basic knowledge of health and safety procedures Good practical and DIY skills Reliable, organised, and proactive approach Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong communication and problem-solving skills An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply) Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or completing a new application.
