The Community Paediatric service provides assessment and support for young people who have, or are suspected of having, a range of developmental and neurodevelopmental conditions. Through work with young people, families, and professionals, this role aims to enhance services for those awaiting or undergoing assessment for autism spectrum conditions, focusing on understanding individual strengths and needs.
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who can demonstrate recent relevant experience as per the Person Specification.
Main duties of the job
This role involves supporting the multi-disciplinary team in completing assessments as part of our pre-school and school-age autism spectrum pathways. It includes gathering information through observation, assessment, and information collection to support team formulation regarding a young person's presentation.
The role also involves supporting young people and families before or while awaiting assessment, focusing on interventions that benefit a broad range of families through groups, workshops, and liaison with partner agencies. It may include targeted support to young people and families.

Job responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
1. Support the assessment of young people suspected of having an autism spectrum condition, under supervision of the assessment team, including delegated tasks like observations or assessment tools.
2. Liaise with professionals within and outside the community paediatric service to gather information and insights about young people.
3. Participate in multi-disciplinary discussions to help formulate outcomes for young people.
4. Deliver interventions and support to young people and families through groups and workshops.
5. Under supervision, provide targeted support to children and families based on specific goals and outcomes.
6. Provide clear, accessible written information for young people, families, and professionals.
7. Engage proactively in supervision with the team and manager.
8. Liaise with partner organizations, including schools, local authorities, and charities, to plan and deliver support.
9. Participate in multi-agency meetings such as Team Around Me or Early Help Assessment Plan meetings.
10. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions with young people and families.
11. Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of toys and equipment used in assessments.
12. Be aware of communication strategies used by children with special education needs or disabilities, including signing and visual tools.
Person Specification
Knowledge and experience
* Experience working with children and young people with autism spectrum conditions.
* Understanding of behaviors that challenge.
* Knowledge of child development.
* Knowledge of co-existing conditions like ADHD and learning disabilities.
* Insight into the autism assessment process.
Qualifications
* NVQ level 4 in a related subject, diploma, or equivalent experience in relevant fields like childcare.
* Child protection/safeguarding training.
