Cost Accountant
* Job Type: Full-time Permanent
* Location: Newcastle, Hybrid Working
* Salary: £40,000
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading company in the financial services industry who are seeking a Cost Accountant to join their Management Accounting team. This role offers the opportunity to support the Cost Accountant Lead in controlling overheads and to play a key role in strategic decision-making processes. This position provides a unique chance to shape the role, drive improvements in cost control, and challenge existing processes with visibility across the Group.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Prepare accurate monthly Management Accounts including P&L, Balance Sheet, and cash flow with relevant insights and commentary.
* Assist in delivering subsidiary level and consolidated monthly management accounts from an overhead perspective.
* Engage in business partnering across the wider business for overhead and cost centre reporting and budget/forecast discussions.
* Conduct weekly nominal analysis and prepare Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
* Review and perform in-depth analysis on the accuracy of accruals and prepayments.
* Provide support during external and internal audit requests.
* Assist with project overhead tracking and manage Exceptional charges reporting.
* Participate in Complaints and operational loss reporting and Cost Centre overhead analysis.
* Collaborate with the Purchase Ledger team to develop a universal coding document.
* Review automated payroll journals and prepare payroll reconciliations.
* Liaise with Purchase Ledger on invoice coding and carry out ad-hoc overhead analysis as requested.
* Work with the tax team to prepare VAT submissions and prepare journals.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for Workday reporting and other finance systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Part-Qualified or Qualified Accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA/ICAS).
* Excellent working knowledge of Excel.
* Experience with financial statement presentations, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and cash flow management.
* Understanding of the purchase ledger cycle, forecast cycles, accruals, and prepayments.
* Familiarity with financial statements and experience working to tight deadlines.
* Experience with Workday is desirable but not essential.
* A strong understanding of the financial services industry is preferred.
