Job Description
The Manual Tester is responsible for ensuring high-quality delivery across all phases of the software development lifecycle. The role involves requirement analysis, test planning, test case creation, execution, defect reporting, and test closure activities. The tester will collaborate closely with business analysts, developers, automation engineers, and product owners to validate functionality, usability, and performance against business and technical requirements.
A strong understanding of testing methodologies, Agile practices, and defect lifecycle management is essential.
Here is a detailed list of Day-to-Day Responsibilities
1. Test Planning & PreparationUnderstand requirements and user stories by collaborating with BAs, developers, and product owners.Review functional specifications and design documents to identify testable conditions.Create, review, and update test plans, test scenarios, and test cases.
2. Manual Testing ActivitiesExecute manual test cases for functional, integration, regression, and exploratory testing.Perform UI, API, and end-to-end testing of web/mobile applications.Log and track defects in tools like JIRA, ensuring detailed and reproducible bug reports.Retest resolved defects and verify fixes.
3. Collaboration & Agile CeremoniesParticipate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming.Collaborate with developers to resolve bugs and clarify test data or environment setup.Provide daily or weekly test progress updates and contribute to sprint reviews.
4. Test Data & Environment ManagementPrepare and manage test data for various test cycles.Coordinate with DevOps or environment teams to ensure test environments are stable and ready.Validate deployment in QA/staging environments before sign-off
5. Documentation & ReportingDocument test results, issues, and improvements for transparencyPrepare test summary reports and share metrics like test coverage, pass/fail rates, and defect trends
6. Maintain QA artifacts in Confluence, SharePoint, or other document repositories
Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience
7. Manual Testing - Test design, execution, and defect management
8. Agile / Waterfall Methodologies - Working knowledge of iterative and sequential delivery models
9. Test Management Tools - JIRA, Zephyr, Xray, or equivalent
10. Documentation - Test Plan, Test Case, and Test Summary Report preparation
11. Defect Lifecycle Management - Clear defect logging, prioritization, and closure tracking
12. Regression & Exploratory Testing - Ensuring system stability through risk-based regression suites
13. Communication - Strong written and verbal communication with cross-functional teams
14. Basic understanding of automation testing (Selenium, TestNG, or Cucumber).
15. Experience with API testing tools like Postman.
16. Basic exposure to performance testing (JMeter).
17. Familiarity with SQL for test data validation.
18. ISTQB Foundation or Advanced Certification preferred.
