Job Summary
HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant II to support clinical research evaluating novel interventions to improve mental health and prevent suicide in active‑duty service members. The role will be in support of the Department of Psychiatry / Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress, located at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, VA.
Responsibilities
* Support the planning and implementation of clinical research, maintaining compliance with research protocols and SOPs.
* Facilitate recruitment, screening, and enrollment of study participants.
* Communicate with study participants throughout study stages.
* Assist with, plan and/or execute administration of study treatments in compliance with treatment protocols.
* Maintain detailed logs and documentation of participant communication and study progress tracking.
* Perform qualitative and quantitative data collection, entry, quality control, and basic analysis as outlined by project protocols.
* Perform administrative duties such as maintaining study databases and files; scheduling study appointments; developing protocol manuals and data collection instruments.
* Conduct scientific literature reviews; summarize and reference relevant articles.
* Assist with the preparation of manuscripts, reports, grant proposals, and presentations including editing and formatting documents.
* Assist in IRB protocol preparation and modification.
* Conduct study administrative tasks (e.g., supply ordering) in collaboration with HJF, USUHS, and other agencies.
* Participate in regular meetings with other study personnel, collaborators, and stakeholders.
* Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team; provide research support for projects related to military mental health as needed.
* May perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including mandatory training.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree required.
* 3–5 years of experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Prior experience with human subjects research preferred.
* Excellent organizational and project management skills.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to communicate effectively and work with individuals of all levels.
* Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
* Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
* May require U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain T3 Secret clearance.
Work Environment
* Primarily in a clinic setting.
Compensation
* Hourly pay range $22.16–$32.93, based on experience, education, etc.
