Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician works as part of the multidisciplinary team within the General Practice to support safe, effective and efficient use of medicines. They assist with medicines optimisation, repeat prescribing, patient education and clinical administrative tasks under the supervision of a clinical pharmacist and GPs.
Main Duties
* Conduct medication reviews and support adherence through education and advice.
* Monitor high‑risk medicines, ensure required blood tests and safety checks remain updated.
* Undertake regular audits focused on patient safety.
* Process repeat prescription requests in line with practice protocols.
* Update medication records, reconcile medicines and identify discrepancies.
* Manage acute medication requests & queries, escalating appropriately.
* Support safe transfer of care by reconciling discharge summaries, clinic letters and hospital medication changes.
* Provide information and promote understanding of medicines to patients, carers and care homes.
* Advise on safe storage, disposal and correct use of medicines.
* Respond to patient queries related to prescriptions and medication availability.
* Use GP clinical system SystmOne to update records and read codes.
* Monitor stock issues and medication safety alerts.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of practice protocols and policies around medicines.
* Collaborate closely with GPs, pharmacists, nurses, reception, PCN staff and community pharmacies.

Essential Qualifications
* Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Level 3 Pharmacy Technician qualification (NVQ/QCF/Apprenticeship).
Desirable
* Experience working in a GP surgery or Primary Care Network.
* Experience with SystmOne and medicines reconciliation in primary care.
* Experience supporting medication reviews or QOF/IIF medicines indicators.
* Involvement in audits, quality improvement or safety projects.
* Additional training in Primary Care Pharmacy education.
Person Specification
* Must be a GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician.
* Accurate, organised and confident with clinical IT systems.
* Able to communicate clearly with patients and healthcare professionals.
* Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Experienced in primary care.
