We are seeking an experienced Obstetric Sonographer to join our insourcing service and provide crucial additional capacity for ultrasound services in the North region of Scotland. Pay & Accommodation * Pay Rate: £65-£70 per hour * Work Pattern: Monday to Friday, or 3-4 days per week * Accommodation: Hospital accommodation available * Candidates must show evidence of Green Flagged to be considered Key Responsibilities The Sonographer will work autonomously as part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering high-quality ultrasound services in line with RCOG and BMUS standards. Your responsibilities will include: * Performing obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound scans, including first trimester, anomaly, growth, and early pregnancy assessments. * Independently producing diagnostic reports and providing findings directly to referring clinicians. * Adapting techniques to individual patient needs, ensuring accuracy and patient comfort. * Undertaking antenatal screening (including NT and anomaly scans), providing pre- and post-test counselling where required. * Managing sensitive and complex cases, including counselling women and families in cases of fetal abnormality or pregnancy loss. * Supervising and supporting student sonographers, radiographers, or midwives in training, ensuring high standards of clinical education. * Maintaining accurate records in line with professional and NHS standards. * Participating in audit, quality assurance and service evaluation to maintain and improve standards. * Ensuring safe use of ultrasound equipment and contributing to infection control and departmental safety practices. Essential Requirements * HCPC registration (Sonographer or Midwife Sonographer). * Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Obstetric & Gynaecology Ultrasound. * Minimum of 3 years' post-registration experience in obstetric ultrasound. * Demonstrated ability to perform and report scans independently. * Evidence of DQASS cycles in line with first trimester screening. * Strong communication skills, with the ability to deliver sensitive information empathetically. * Knowledge of RCOG guidelines and departmental ultrasound protocols. * Up-to-date CPD portfolio with evidence of recent study days or training. Desirable Skills * Experience in fetal medicine, twins, and early pregnancy assessment. * Experience working across multiple ultrasound systems and settings (NHS or private). * Proven ability to mentor or train junior staff. * Audit, research, or quality improvement experience.
