From our facility in South Wales, we provide comprehensive services including vehicle overhauls, heavy maintenance, component repairs and system upgrades to a large proportion of the UK rail fleet. Responsibilities
We are seeking a dynamic Rolling Stock Engineer as a key part of the engineering capability at Pullman Rail to drive engineering strategy, ensure technical excellence, and oversee operational support. You will develop talent and support the engineering capability to power Pullman Rail’s long-term growth.
The Rolling Stock Engineer will deliver comprehensive engineering support for traction, rolling stock, and vehicle systems, focusing on safe, reliable, and cost‑effective operations. The role encompasses both electrical and mechanical expertise for traction, auxiliary power, and control systems. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
* Safety & Ethics – Support the implementation of the Pullman Rail Limited Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) strategy, associated actions and resulting initiatives, to deliver continuous improvement.
* Quality & Compliance – Support the quality and inspection team to drive the quality of products to our customers. This will include providing technical support and engineering expertise across all rolling stock systems including traction, braking, pneumatic, electrical and control systems, embedding best‑in‑class ways of working.
* Delivery – Ensure work is carried out with a continuous view to profitability and efficiency and drive customer value and relationships. Take responsibility for delivering on time, high quality and on budget products or engineering services. You will develop, review and update engineering documentation, technical instructions and maintenance procedures to ensure clarity, accuracy, and compliance.
* People – Champion respect, inclusion, and diversity; empower the engineering team to excel through development, collaboration and innovation. You will work with multi‑disciplinary teams and our customers to develop and mobilise solutions, and deliver high‑value customer products and engineering services.
Qualifications
* An engineer (with a Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Production Engineering, or working towards Chartered Engineer status) with demonstrable experience in a technical role, ideally within the traction and rolling stock industry.
* Someone with a strong understanding of regulatory and industry frameworks (for example, RISAS, ISO ROGS) who is able to lead, influence and collaborate across multi‑disciplinary teams to develop strategies and programmes.
* Understanding of vehicle electrical systems including traction, control and auxiliary power with sound knowledge and demonstrable experience of process engineering and continuous improvement, with demonstrable experience of enhancing customer value.
* High level attention to detail, able to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical drawings; with experience in design (3D CAD), fault diagnosis, root cause analysis and engineering change management.
Welsh Language Skills
The ability to speak/write Welsh would be a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
