Senior Component Engineer UK | Hybrid Defence / Aerospace | Component Engineering | Obsolescence
Overview This is a senior level Component Engineering role focused on the selection, qualification, lifecycle management, and obsolescence control of mechanical and electromechanical components used within complex missile systems.
Youll join an established UK Component Engineering function, providing technical authority across component selection, supplier assurance, compliance, and long term availability in a highly regulated defence environment.
This role suits an experienced Component Engineer who enjoys ownership, problem solving, and technical depth, rather than pure design work.
What youll be doing Youll work across the full component lifecycle, supporting both new and in service products: Take technical ownership of mechanical and electromechanical component selection, approval, and ongoing suitability
Assess component lifecycle status, identifying and mitigating obsolescence and supply chain risk
Evaluate and manage suppliers, including capability assessment, reliability review, and technical engagement
Support or perform component testing and inspection, ensuring compliance with specifications and quality standards
Maintain accurate component records and technical data, ensuring traceability, compliance, and data integrity
Advise internal engineering teams on component availability, alternatives, and risk
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, helping define and embed best practice across UK and international teams
Remain current with emerging components, materials, and technologies relevant to the product lifecycle
What were looking for Were looking for experienced practitioners, not generalists or graduates. Youll ideally bring: Proven experience working with mechanical and electromechanical components
Hands on understanding of component qualification, testing, and inspection
Experience managing component lifecycles and obsolescence
Working knowledge of REACH and RoHS compliance
Strong attention to detail with experience maintaining technical records, specifications, and compliance data
Confidence engaging with suppliers and internal engineering stakeholders
A proactive, structured approach with a strong focus on quality and delivery
Experience in aerospace, defence, automotive, rail, nuclear, or similarly regulated environments is highly beneficial.
Why consider this role? Exposure to safety critical, technically complex products
Ownership across the full component lifecycle, not just selection
Opportunity to influence obsolescence strategy and supplier direction
A role valued for technical judgement and expertise, not administration alone
