Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the senior MSK team and shape our future service, we have an exciting opportunity to recruit to the Healthcare Governance Matron/Governance Lead role.

The post holder will provide co ordination and leadership to support various governance functions such as quality monitoring and complaints and risk management. The postholder will work across professional boundaries and will work closely with the Medical Governance leads to ensure the provision of quality care and patient safety. The post holder will also manage the MSK Education Team. Please note, nursing applicants will be asked to contribute to the Duty Matron rota.

The MSK care group is made up of the following specialities: Inpatient and outpatient Orthopaedic, spinal and trauma services, Sheffield Hand Centre, Metabolic Bone and Osteoporosis Centre, Rheumatology, Chronic Pain Services, Podiatric Surgery, Inpatient and Outpatient hospital based MSK Therapy services, Physio work community service, Staff physiotherapy service.

Main duties of the job

To be the first point of contact for directorate/department staff, corporate specialists, central governance departments, and Trust-wide specialist committees for governance communications.

To ensure that healthcare governance communication is locally disseminated to relevant staff, and that they are consulted about changes to governance systems and documents.

To ensure that serious directorate or department issues are rapidly brought to the attention of the relevant Clinical, Operations and Nurse Director, Head of Service and Matrons; corporate lead/central department, and to any relevant colleagues in other directorates, departments or committees.

To receive guidance from corporate specialists and central governance departments about legislation and national standards, consider how processes could be changed to improve compliance and quality, and recommend changes to systems, policies and protocols.

To ensure that agreed changes to governance systems, policies and protocols are implemented across the directorate/department and any issues are fed back.

To participate in surveys, audits and inspections to test local governance processes and provide evidence of compliance with standards when required.

To ensure that local systems are in place to review and update clinical guidelines and governance protocols produced by the directorate/department.

Essential criteria

1. Registered Healthcare Professional e.g. NMC, HPC
2. Masters degree, or equivalent experience
3. 1st level degree or evidence of equivalent study

Desirable criteria

4. Patient, occupational safety or risk management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Significant experience working within an acute hospital.
6. Significant healthcare governance and risk management experience.
7. Significant experience of complaints management, meeting with patients and complaints resolution.
8. Experience of effectively chairing meetings and meeting deadlines.
9. Experience of leading on investigations and report writing.
10. Proven clinical operational experience with advanced problem solving.
11. Experience of HR management; and leading a team.
