Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

The post

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Postdoctoral Research Associate/Graduate Research Assistant to contribute to a study evaluating ethnic differences in the performance of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test in prostate cancer diagnosis. We are open to appointing to any of the above titles; please view the job descriptions for details. This position, funded by the Wellcome Trust, is available immediately for up to two years at 0.5 to 1 FTE, with exact dates subject to funding. The successful applicant will lead or contribute to managing and analyzing multi-source linked electronic health records to assess the risks and benefits of PSA testing in men with suspected prostate cancer. Prior experience in data management and analysis is essential.

We anticipate that this role will help develop your disciplinary skills, expand this research field, and support successful grant applications in the latter part of the appointment.

We welcome applications from candidates interested in part-time hours or job-sharing arrangements.

About You

The ideal candidate will have skills to manage and analyze routinely gathered healthcare data not originally intended for research. They should be capable of presenting research progress and outcomes effectively and communicating complex information orally and in writing.

Candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position are expected to develop research objectives, projects, proposals, identify funding opportunities, and contribute to securing research funding.

Applicants must hold a relevant PhD (or near completion) or equivalent qualifications/experience in a related field. The successful candidate will be a recognized expert in cancer epidemiology, with the knowledge necessary to develop research programs and methodologies.

Applicants for the Graduate Research Assistant position should have a first degree or equivalent in a relevant field. They must be able to work collaboratively, supervise others, and take on leadership responsibilities when needed.

Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.
