An opportunity is available for an Operator (Overhead Lines) based in Birmingham.
As an Operator, you will assist a Craftsperson with construction, maintenance, replacement, and repair of overhead lines up to and including 66kV.
The work involves being away from the depot, normally working in a team of two people. The environment requires quick, decisive, and responsible actions to meet the demands of the role.
You will also be responsible for ensuring the van contains all essential tools and equipment, working safely, and assisting with any labour required on site. The work will involve being away from the depot, working in a team of two or sometimes more people.
You need the ability and enthusiasm to work in a physical environment and take quick, decisive, and responsible action. A flexible approach to working hours is essential.
To apply, you must hold English & Maths GCSE (1-9/G-A*) or equivalent qualification at the same level, such as Functional Skills.
Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
Main Responsibilities
You will be required to work at heights on all types of overhead line. Duties include:
* Undertaking deadwork on LV, HV, and EHV systems under the leadership of a Technician or Craftsperson.
* Operation of mechanical equipment
* Inspecting poles and overhead equipment and rectifying minor defects
* Trimming and felling trees
* Excavating, laying cable, and backfilling
* Excavating pole and stay holes
* Delivering planned shutdown notices and making appointments
* Resolving customer complaints (directly where possible)
Ideal Candidate
You should be flexible in your approach to help the team meet its objectives. Some experience in the electrical field is preferred, but all necessary training will be provided.
A valid driving licence is essential as you may need to undertake standby duties across the area.
Operationally, you should live within approximately 30 minutes of the depot you are applying for.
Note: Roles involving working at height with Personal Fall Protection Equipment have weight restrictions.
