Role Summary

We are seeking an organised, motivated Orthoptic Coordinator to support the smooth running of the Orthoptic and Glaucoma Monitoring service.

You will provide clinical and administrative support across the department, coordinate clinics, help manage patient flow, and act as a key point of contact for patients, families and clinical teams.

We would like to recruit a professional and reliable individual to provide efficient and effective administrative support as a co-ordinator of the orthoptic service.

The post holder will also provide administrative support to the paediatric vision screening service and glaucoma monitoring service. Both services are provided by the Orthoptic Department based at North Devon District Hospital.

You will have knowledge and experience in managing wait lists effectively and coordinating rotas to ensure sufficient staffing is available in all settings / locations.

You will possess excellent organisational skills that will demonstrate your ability to coordinate different staff groups and approach sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.

You will provide excellent customer care service. This position is instrumental in creating a “good first impression” of the Trust / Department to patients and visitors.

You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure and have experience of dealing with the general public. A flexible approach to work and experience of working in a busy environment and with minimal supervision are also essential.

This role would suit someone who is proactive and looking for a challenge.

Experience of working within the Ophthalmology or Orthoptic Department would be advantageous.

Standard IT skills and working knowledge of electronic systems used in healthcare settings are a requirement. The role will involve direct contact with patients.

You will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of annual/sick leave.

The working hours are currently a total of hours per week. The post holder will be based at North Devon District Hospital.

Working Pattern: 4 x hour days

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 6-7 rates, inclusive of a pay award implemented from April 6. If you join before this date,, remuneration will be based on the 5-6 pay bandings (Pay scales for 5/ | NHS Employers)
