Role Summary
Position: Chief Pharmacist Support – Medicines Management (MM) Team
Salary: NHS AfC Band 8b
Responsibilities
* Support the Chief Pharmacist to manage the medicines management (MM) team and co‑ordinate the delivery of medicines management services across CWPT, focusing on the Children and Young People (CYP) Directorate.
* Take operational responsibility for the safe, secure, effective provision, management and strategic direction of all aspects of pharmacy and MM services across the Directorate and the Trust.
* Provide professional pharmaceutical leadership and expert advice on all matters relating to prescribing and MM services to the Chief Pharmacist, the contracted pharmacy service, the medicines management team and individual services and clinicians.
* This post does not include any weekend, bank holiday or unsocial hours working.
* Develop and implement the long‑term Trust strategy for MM services in the CYP Directorate, ensuring services are progressive, responsive, efficient and equitable across all sites.
* Fulfil statutory duties of Accountable Officer for Controlled Drugs as per the Controlled Drugs (CD) (Supervision of Management and Use) Regulations 2006, including safe handling, monitoring, auditing, rapid sharing of concerns, investigation of cases, inspection of health‑care professionals and determining remedial actions.
* Ensure services comply with all mandatory and statutory legislation, and that compliance is evidenced, documented and reported.
* Maintain a deep understanding of complex legislation and professional guidance to pre‑empt non‑compliance or inappropriate service provision.
* Be fully involved in future planning of MM services for the Directorate, addressing developments within clinical units and compliance with national standards and objectives.
* Participate as an active member of ward or clinical teams on an as‑required basis.
* Act as the nominated pharmacy lead for research.
Qualifications
* Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust’s Values.
* Masters‑level Pharmacy degree or equivalent.
* Current and continued registration and membership with The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (practising member).
* Specialist clinical post‑graduate qualification (e.g., Diploma in Psychiatric Pharmacy or Clinical Pharmacy) or willingness to work towards a qualification.
* Confident and assertive when dealing with other professionals.
* Broad technical and pharmaceutical knowledge relating to the promotion of high‑quality, effective and cost‑effective use of medicines.
* Significant post‑registration experience.
* Experience working with people with mental health/learning disability problems or similar services.
