Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Orthopaedics and Trauma (ST4-ST6)

Job overview

Fixed Term | Full Time | 6 Months | Proposed interview date Friday the 19th June 2026

Applications are invited for a replacement post within the South Yorkshire training rotation at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a fixed-term training opportunity commencing on 7/10/26 and concluding on 6/4/27 (inclusive).

If additional 6‑month posts become available, suitable applicants may be considered for these opportunities.

This post offers the chance to gain valuable experience within a specialist paediatric setting as part of a supportive training rotation.

Main duties of the job

Educational experience is available at registrar level (ST4–6) in general paediatric orthopaedics and trauma. Training covers a broad range of paediatric orthopaedic conditions, excluding malignant bone tumours. The department has particular expertise in flexible nailing, DDH ultrasound screening, Ponseti management of clubfoot, neuromuscular conditions supported by gait analysis, and growing rods in osteogenesis imperfecta. There is also a specialised adolescent knee service.

Trainees gain experience in deformity planning and correction, limb lengthening techniques (including circular and monolateral frames, intramedullary lengthening nails, and internal fixation), and both acute and long‑term management of complex fractures. The post offers hands‑on operative experience in trauma and elective cases. Sheffield Children’s Hospital is a designated Major Trauma Centre, and weekly Friday MDT governance meetings provide excellent teaching and learning opportunities.
