Location: HMP Winchester, Romsey Rd, Winchester, SO22 5DF
Salary: £41,833.37 per annum (includes £3,500 location bonus)
Contract: Permanent – Full Time – 39 hours per week – Monday to Friday

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, fully qualified NVQ Level 3 Electrician to join our team at HMP Winchester, an adult male prison. The role is part of our Facilities Maintenance Team, which supports a safe and secure environment for prisoners, staff and visitors. You will work alongside colleagues from a wide range of trades – including plumbers, carpenters, painters, cleaners and administrators – to maintain the electrical installations of the prison.
Responsibilities
* Maintain and repair electrical systems throughout the facility, ensuring compliance with BS7671:2018 standards.
* Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance, including scheduled inspections and troubleshooting of commercial and industrial electrical equipment.
* Collaborate with other trades to support projects such as new installations, refurbishments and emergency repairs.
* Adherently follow health & safety procedures, keeping detailed records of all work performed.
* Assist with training and mentorship of junior staff where appropriate.
Qualifications
* Certificate in BS7671:2018 (18th edition).
* Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation or Electrotechnical Services (City & Guilds/EAL), with relevant NVQs and competency assessments (e.g., AM2/AM2S, 2367 or 2357).
* At least two years’ experience as a fully qualified electrician.
* Experience working on commercial or industrial electrical systems.
* Good working knowledge of planned and preventive maintenance operations.
* Excellent organisational, time‑management and interpersonal skills.
