Youth Justice Worker - HMP Wetherby. Location: HMP Wetherby, York Rd, Wetherby LS22 5ED. Starting salary for a 39 hour week inc 20% unsocial: £35,875. Vacancy type: Merit.
The Youth Custody Service is transforming its workforce, and this role is focused on supporting children and young people in custody. This role is vital in reshaping how children and young people are cared for in custody. DBS check required.
Responsibilities
* Support practical daily life for children in custody, including interventions when required.
* Oversee and facilitate safe movement around the site and provide supervision to ensure safety.
* Contribute to a safe, respectful environment and respond to needs as part of the youth justice team.
Requirements
* Be at least 18 years old at the point you commence employment.
* Meet Civil Service Nationality requirements.
* Pass a medical and fitness assessment as part of the application process (physically active role).
* Meet the required eyesight standard in both eyes (with or without corrective lenses).
* Have suitable hearing without the use of hearing aids for safety.
* Tattoos: permitted if not offensive, discriminatory, violent, or intimidating; facial tattoos are generally not acceptable, except for cultural, religious, or medical reasons.
* Be prepared for training and assessment as part of the recruitment process.
Pay
The initial training is 37 hours a week. After training, you can choose to work 37, 39 or 41 hours a week. Your annual salary will reflect your weekly hours:
* 37 hours a week = £33,746 per year
* 39 hours a week = £35,875 per year
* 41 hours a week = £38,003 per year
All salary figures quoted include any additional allowances applicable to the role/location.

Assessment Process
* During the recruitment process you will be assessed on: communicating and influencing; managing a quality service; making effective decisions; caring.
* Online Tests: you will be invited to complete stage 1 to assess basic judgement and numerical skills. If successful, stage 2 will be a task-based assessment.
* Online Assessment Centre (OAC): after passing online tests, you will be invited to an online assessment centre. Upon successful completion, you’ll have a medical and fitness test.

* This is a merit vacancy. If successful at the online assessment centre, you will be added to a merit list based on your score.
* After all applicants complete the assessment centre, the prison will offer positions to those with the highest scores first when available.
* You can stay on the merit list for 12 months; after this you’ll need to reapply.
Operational Support Grade (OSG)
Our Online Assessment Centre will determine suitability for appointment as an Operational Support Grade (OSG). If you are unsuccessful as a Youth Justice Worker after attendance at the OAC, we may offer you an alternative OSG role.
