About the Department
The Department of Vascular Surgery comprises 5 WTE NHS Consultant staff (excluding this post), 1 Specialist Doctor, 1 Specialty Registrar, 3 Clinical Fellows, 1 Core Trainee, 3 Resident Doctors FY2 level and 4 Resident Doctors FY1 level. It is supported by 1 Vascular Nurse Consultant, 1 Clinical Nurse Specialist and 1 Physician Associate. The unit has 18 beds in Ward 215 and 6 Vascular Rehab Beds at Woodend Hospital, a modern Vascular Laboratory, and a Day case / Outpatient Endovenous Thermal (EVLT) service. The department runs the National Screening Programme for AAA and has an Endovascular service with Interventional Radiology; works closely with Nephrology for Renal access. The Vascular Unit covers Grampian, Orkney and Shetland Islands and has strong links with Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin. Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is the Major Trauma Centre for the North of Scotland and the Vascular Unit participates in primary Adult Code Red for Major Trauma calls.
Responsibilities
* Join the Consultant rota and be expected to work a one in five rota with prospective cover for holidays and study leave.
* Provide substantially autonomous clinical practice with appropriate support and supervision from the Consultant group to aid development and ensure clinical governance.
* Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and participate in improvement and redesign initiatives.
Qualifications and Eligibility
* Full GMC registration with license to practice (license must be in place prior to starting).
* UK-trained applicants should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
* CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors may be eligible for a substantive post only after CESR/Portfolio Pathway registration is awarded.
* International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register. Locum Consultant posts may be available for those not on the Specialist Register, for up to 12 months, while CESR/Portfolio Pathway applications are pursued.
