Community Maternity Support Worker
We seek a dedicated Community Maternity Support Worker to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role you will support midwives, teach parenting skills, and ensure a safe, respectful, and evidence‑based care environment for women, birthing people, babies, and families.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist the registered midwife/professional in the delivery of midwifery care.
* Communicate with the woman/birthing person in a respectful and understandable manner.
* Record all care and advice given on the Trust’s electronic patient recording system; complete paper documentation when required, in line with Trust policy.
* Support infant feeding and actively encourage breastfeeding in line with the Trust policy and national initiatives.
* Carry out phlebotomy, neonatal screening, serum bilirubin and blood glucose monitoring procedures, basic wound care, and other duties as required through appropriate training.
* Maintain professionalism and boundaries when supporting women/birthing people in their home environment.
* Operate as a lone worker in the community setting, guided by local policy on safety in the community.
* Store clinical records in line with the Trust’s data protection policy.
* Adhere strictly to Trust Infection Control policies and procedures.
* Assist in the delivery of antenatal, labour, and postnatal patient care.
* Communicate effectively with women/birthing people and their families to keep them well informed of any changes or delays to appointments/investigations.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Essential: Driver’s licence with access to a car.
* Ability to operate as a lone worker in a community setting.
* Competence in basic clinical skills (phlebotomy, neonatal screening, bilirubin testing, blood glucose monitoring, wound care) achieved through training.
* Knowledge of Trust policy on privacy, dignity, data protection, and infection control.
