Unit Overview
The 14‑chaired day unit cares for patients with a range of cancers receiving chemotherapy and other treatments. We aim to provide a personalised and supportive environment for high‑standard care.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare the chemotherapy unit at the start of the day and restock supplies; clean chairs, trolleys, etc.
* Welcome patients and perform observations (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, weight, BMI, urinalysis, blood sugars) and report any variations.
* Maintain a safe, clean clinical environment to reduce infection risk.
* Ensure all patient records are updated accurately.
* Answer telephone calls/bleeps and take messages.
* Assist with ordering and monitoring stock items.
* Chaperone patients during physical examinations and procedures.
* Perform clinical procedures as defined by Trust protocol (phlebotomy, PICC line care).
* Assess patient well‑being and seek support if needed from other professionals.
* Report immediately to the nurse in charge any observed changes in a patient’s condition or concerns expressed.
What We Offer
* Pay band 3: £24,937 – £26,598 per year.
* Permanent contract, part‑time flexible working.

* Supportive team led by the unit manager, Matron for Oncology/Hematology, Lead Chemotherapy Nurse.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* Basic education.
* Previous experience as a healthcare assistant.
* Good verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
* Good written communication skills.
Desirable
* First Aid qualification.
* Recognised qualification in venepuncture and cannulation.
* Experience working with patients who have had cancer or haematological conditions.
* Use of IT systems to record information.

* Committed to patient‑centred care and respectful communication.
