LEAD DAYSHIFT ENGINEER, JEDBURGH, SCOTTISH BORDERS

Based in the beautiful Scottish Borders (circa 1 hour south of Edinburgh), GRW Talent's client is a well-established global manufacturer providing solutions to the power, telecom and data centre markets. They have two sites in Scotland and form part of an international business stretching into Europe, the USA and Middle-East. The group is undergoing extensive growth and change right now, and they are currently looking to recruit a Lead Dayshift Engineer.
Reporting into the Engineering Lead, the Lead Dayshift Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership within the engineering team, ensuring the smooth running of maintenance and engineering activities. In addition to delivering hands-on engineering support, you will deputise for the Engineering Leader when required, leading the team, attending site meetings, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role plays a critical part in optimising plant performance, ensuring compliance, and supporting both maintenance and project work.
Responsibilities:
* Deputise for the Engineering Leader in their absence, ensuring the engineering team is effectively managed and supported.
* Provide technical expertise to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex engineering issues.
* Preventive Maintenance - carry out routine, scheduled maintenance tasks on machinery and plant equipment, following established PM schedules.
* Breakdown Response & Troubleshooting - respond quickly to unplanned breakdowns, diagnosing faults and implementing effective repairs.
* Collaboration with Plant Leader to coordinate maintenance activities around production demands & communicate about upcoming PM tasks potential downtime.
* Update the CMMS promptly with completed work orders, spare parts usage, and any new asset information and maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities.
* Spare Parts & Inventory Management - monitor inventory levels, notifying procurement or management when stock replenishment is needed.
* Continuous Improvement & Reliability - recommend and implement improvements and assist in root cause analyses to address recurrent failures and develop solutions.
You should have a recognised engineering qualification and/or time-served apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineering with experience working in a senior engineering role within a manufacturing or industrial environment and a background in preventative and reactive maintenance, with the ability to lead troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts. Experience supervising engineering teams or acting as a deputy in leadership roles and familiarity with engineering compliance requirements, including PUWER, LOLER, and environmental standards along with knowledge of CMMS systems and experience in maintaining accurate maintenance records would be beneficial.
