Design Manager – Electricity Transmission & Distribution

A Little Bit About Your Role
You will lead and manage design projects in the UK’s electricity transmission and distribution sector. Working with the Project Director and Project Manager, you’ll oversee engineering design work, deliver project‑management services, and ensure compliance with best practices and UK regulations. Your role includes assembling project teams from across the globe, driving projects from concept to completion, and maintaining high standards in safety, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead design management for mid‑scale projects, managing resources, timelines, and budgets from concept through to completion.
* Ensure projects comply with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
* Manage client relationships and collaborate with engineering teams to deliver effective, integrated solutions.
* Lead client and project meetings, reporting on progress, financials, and addressing technical challenges.
* Drive "Safety by Design" practices and ensure compliance with UK CDM (Construction Design & Management) Regulations.
* Assist in marketing activities and business development.
What We Are Looking for You to Demonstrate
* Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline with experience in design management.
* Knowledge of UK health & safety and environmental regulations.
* Advanced project‑management knowledge (APM, PMP, PRINCE2).
* Strong contract‑management and negotiation skills.
* Experience working on National Grid Electricity Transmission projects is an advantage.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and team‑development skills.
* Ability to provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff.
