Part‑time Band 6 Glaucoma Nurse Specialist – St. Paul’s Ophthalmic Outpatients
This role is part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to the assessment, monitoring and treatment of Glaucoma patients within the outpatient department. The post holder will serve as the primary point of contact for existing and newly diagnosed patients and will contribute to research, audit and practice development. The role also involves deputising for the Band 7 manager.
Qualifications
* At least 2 years of experience working in an ophthalmic setting.
* Relevant Ophthalmic Nurse Specialist qualification.
* ANEX 21 training post may be considered to gain required competencies (75 % of Band 6 salary paid until competencies are achieved).
Responsibilities
* Perform specialist assessment of patients’ nursing needs, and plan, implement and evaluate care delivery using advanced clinical knowledge and skills.
* Lead clinical care by managing a patient caseload and providing expert assessment, planning and evaluation.
* Coordinate and manage nurse/AHP‑led clinics within the specialty.
* Contribute to a multi‑professional approach in the management of patients, particularly regarding ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
* Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, carers and relatives.
* Support patients and families, ensuring they receive the information required to self‑manage or participate in their care.
* Recognise changes in patients’ condition that require intervention from others and refer as appropriate.
* Support, assist and encourage the multidisciplinary team in resolving patient problems, providing innovative case‑management models.
* Lead the specialist nursing contribution to the service, working in partnership with lead clinicians, general managers and the matron to deliver high standards of patient care.
* Collaborate with the matron to promote the development of nurses/AHPs undertaking the CNO “Ten Key Roles”, such as prescribing where appropriate.
