Position: Housing Support Officer

Reporting to: Team Leader - Housing

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time, 37.5hrs per week

Salary: £38,000 per annum DOE

About the Role

The Housing Support Officer is responsible for ensuring safe, well-maintained accommodation and supporting tenants to sustain their tenancy within supported living services. The postholder will work collaboratively with support teams, housing providers, and external partners to deliver high-quality housing management, promote independence, and ensure that properties remain safe, compliant, and conducive to positive living.

Responsibilities

Housing & Tenancy Management

1. Provide day-to-day housing support that enables tenants to understand and maintain their tenancy obligations.

2. Assist tenants to manage rent accounts, benefits claims, budgeting and financial sustainability.

3. Support tenants with neighbour, tenancy or community issues, promoting positive resolution and communication.

4. Conduct regular tenancy reviews and update records in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.

5. Monitor arrears and work proactively with tenants and finance teams to prevent debt escalation.

Repairs, Maintenance & Property Standards

6. Identify, report and escalate property repairs and maintenance issues promptly.

7. Coordinate landlord/contractor access to properties and ensure works are completed to a high standard.

8. Complete regular property inspections and environmental checks to ensure a safe and well-maintained living environment.

9. Monitor and support compliance with fire safety, H&S standards, and building-related risk assessments.

10. Maintain accurate housing-related documentation and asset inventories.

Health & Safety & Compliance

11. Deliver and record routine health and safety checks, including fire alarms, legionella/temperature checks, and equipment checks.

12. Ensure services operate in accordance with safeguarding, regulatory and organisational policies.

13. Support incident reporting and ensure actions are completed to mitigate risk.

Support Coordination

14. Work collaboratively with support teams to ensure consistency of housing and care-related support.

15. Provide practical support to tenants to develop independent living skills such as maintaining their home, attending appointments, and community engagement.

16. Assist with move-ins/move-outs, including tenancy sign-ups, void management, and enabling smooth transitions.

17. Encourage tenant participation in service decisions and communal activities.

Administration & Record-Keeping

18. Maintain accurate property, tenancy and compliance records.

19. Support audit processes and prepare documentation for internal and external reviews.

20. Manage correspondence relating to tenancy, housing enforcement, or repairs.

21. Contribute to regular reporting including service performance, H&S compliance, and property issues.

Qualifications and Skills

22. Experience in housing-related roles or supported accommodation.

23. Understanding of tenancy sustainment and housing management principles.

24. Knowledge of safeguarding, risk management, and H&S within shared accommodation.

25. Ability to work with vulnerable adults, including people with mental health needs, learning disabilities or complex needs.

26. Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.

27. Able to build professional relationships and communicate effectively.

28. Full UK driving licence (or ability to travel between services).
