Hours of Work
3.5 days per week on a 3 on 2 off shift (alternate days/nights) – 42 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
* When deputising for the Engineering Shift Manager, lead teams within an area or zone.
* Ensure engineering maintenance is carried out in line with the schedule and effective corrective action is taken.
* Provide quick and effective response to mechanical, electrical and PLC control breakdowns anywhere on site, identifying root cause and suggesting improvements to prevent further breakdowns.
* Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer and work with the operations department to minimise plant disruption.
* Follow good engineering standards and hygiene practice for the department.
* Ensure all activities comply with company and legislative health and safety guidelines, and highlight improvement opportunities.
* Mentor Level 1–3 Maintenance Engineers and apprentices.
* Report health and safety, animal welfare and environmental issues in a timely manner.
* Follow the escalation route for unscheduled downtime and minimise downtime through good engineering practice.
* Demonstrate problem‑solving techniques for mechanical, electrical and control issues to identify root cause quickly and foresee impending issues.
* Raise stock and non‑stock request forms.
* Produce Engineering Shift Report when deputising for the Engineering Shift Manager.
* Contractor management.
What You’ll Need To Be Successful
* Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering or HNC/HND/Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
* Electrical & Control Engineering bias
* Understanding of PLC programming
* Desirable refrigeration experience
* 6+ years of engineering experience
* Desirable welding/fabrication experience
* Familiarity with process machinery or equivalent equipment and ability to fault‑find
* Proficiency in maintenance and troubleshooting of manufacturing systems
* Mechanical fitting skills
* Desirable IEE 17th or 18th edition certification
* Good leadership qualities and ability to motivate others and make effective timely decisions
* Ability to multi‑task and thrive in a timeline‑driven environment
* Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels
* Self‑motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team
* Desirable food‑manufacture experience
