Overview

Would you like to make a real difference to someone's life, promoting their independence and supporting them within their own home? We are looking for caring and compassionate people to join our Support at Home Service in Furness, as Community Support Workers. The Support at Home service offers support to individuals recovering from illness or surgery and those facing a general decline in health. It helps prevent unnecessary hospital admissions by enabling care at home. The main goals are to promote independence, help individuals regain skills, and ensure safety while living at home. Support at Home is a 365 day a year, 7 day a week service. Typically, our shifts run between the hours of 7:30 am - 9:30 pm and are worked over a fixed fortnightly working pattern. This will include weekend and Bank Holiday rotas.

Responsibilities

As a Community Support Worker, you will get the opportunity to know people individually and support their wellbeing through both physical and emotional care. Responsibilities can include assisting with medication and providing personal care such as washing and dressing, meal preparation and supporting with mobility needs. Help may also be needed to establish daily routines which may include household tasks and confidence building. Depending on the individual, the level of support needed may vary but your focus will be on encouraging them to achieve or maintain independence, allowing them to remain living in their local community, in the comfort of their own home. In this role you will build positive relationships with the people you support and encourage them to connect with their local community where possible, whether this be attending a club at the local community centre or planning to go shopping. Your support will enable them to regain or retain skills and achieve the goals set out in their care plan.

Requirements

* Due to the nature of this role, there will be a need to respond to Service Users who will not always be accessible via public transport. Applicants will therefore need access to a motorised vehicle and have a full driving licence. Reasonable adjustments would be considered for disabled candidates. If you would like to discuss reasonable adjustments, please contact the care services recruitment team at carerecruitment@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk

At Westmorland and Furness Council we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of children, young people and adults at risk and we expect all workers, employees and volunteers to share our commitment. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and requires an enhanced DBS check with an Adults Barred List check. Please note this role involves working in regulated activity with adults. It is an offence for people who are barred from working in regulated activity to apply for roles that require them to work unsupervised with adults.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Westmorland and Furness Council is committed to improving the diversity of its workforce to better reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone and work to promote an inclusive, supportive culture that values and celebrates our differences. As a Disability Confident Leader, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview. We also offer guaranteed interviews to Armed Forces personnel and veterans and those in care or care experienced and under 24 years old (someone who has been looked after by a local authority at any point, for any length of time, e.g. foster care, residential care, or under the guardianship of a local authority) that meet the essential criteria for the role.
