E&O Laboratories Ltd is a UK market leader for the manufacture of Microbiological Culture Media. A key component to the success of its clinical product range is the routine harvesting of healthy donor Horse and Sheep blood from its Home Office Licensed farm in West Lothian. Job opportunity: We are looking for an experienced Farm Manager with a self-employed attitude, exceptional interpersonal skills, a passion for animal welfare, who will take great pride in transitioning to regenerative grazing and fodder production. Responsibilities: · Support and manage a team of 2-3 full time animal technicians/general farm workers · Ensure the welfare of all animals are compliant with all external veterinary inspectors/Home Office Legislation · Manage and maintain all farm vehicle/equipment, ensuring routine servicing is recorded, with maintenance logs kept up-to-date · Manage seasonal grazing/cultivations, soil analysis, fodder harvesting and outside contractors as and when required for 400 acres of grassland · Ensure donor blood is harvested aseptically to the highest standards for delivery to our factory requirement schedule · Manage South Mains do-it-yourself Livery Yard (25 stables) and associated facilities/grazing paddocks · Adhere to all H&S directives and Environmental legislation around our agricultural practices · Ensure all buildings, roads, storage yards and service infrastructures are maintained and cleaned · Report accurate quarterly KPI’s, as part of our “operational management team”, to the company directors Key skills and experience: The successful candidate must have a sound knowledge of equine welfare, be happy to handle and operate within large groups of horses, whilst in confined winter accommodation and also outside during summer grazing. Enjoy working with mature sheep weighing between 75kg - 120kg. Full training will be provided around all Home Office procedures and specialised donor harvesting protocols. High quality fodder production and excellent grassland management is required for ensuring health animal welfare and production of donor blood. You should have a passion for the soil and environmental shelter belts and upkeep of all fencing/hedges and animal movement funnels/gating and corrals. The successful candidate will be experienced in ground cultivation, fodder nutrition, general farm machinery operation and have certificates for ATV/Telehandler/Trailer. You will also enjoy motivating staff, training & mentoring where required and communicating with the operational management team at Burnhouse.
