About the role
The post would ideally suit doctors interested in gaining experience in neurology prior to starting Internal Medicine Training. There are ample opportunities to participate in teaching and outpatient clinics. The post-holder will acquire considerable experience in neurology. Significant clinical learning opportunities are available, with weekly clinical and academic meetings, case presentations and frequent clinical teaching. Candidates would be expected to participate in audit and quality improvement.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside registrars and other speciality trainees. A full time post with out of hours work will equate to an average of 48 hours per week. The main duties of this post are to provide care for inpatients on the acute neurology ward. This would include the routine management of inpatients, requests for investigations, referrals to other specialties and electronic prescribing. Candidates would be expected to become competent with procedures relevant to neurology including lumbar punctures and occipital nerve blocks. As a teaching hospital, we encourage all our staff to participate in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We support the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal Colleges and are committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
Education Centres
Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students.
