Behaviour Support Assistant Position Type: Full-time, with both temporary and permanent roles available Location: Bournemouth Start Date: ASAP The School and Role A dedicated Alternative Provision School based in Bournemouth is currently seeking motivated Behaviour Support Assistants to join their team immediately. This school specialises in supporting secondary aged pupils who face social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, as well as exhibiting challenging behaviors. About the Role The successful Behaviour Support Assistant will be integral to creating a safe and disciplined environment conducive to learning. Your role will involve working closely with individual pupils or small groups from Year 7 to Year 11, providing targeted behavioral support to help students manage their emotions and actions effectively. Key responsibilities include: Implementing behaviour management strategies to promote positive conduct Supporting pupils in developing self-regulation and social skills Assisting with de-escalation techniques and calming strategies during challenging situations Working 1-to-1 or in small groups to reinforce classroom expectations and routines Monitoring and recording student behavior to inform progress and support planning Collaborating with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to support behavioral development and emotional well-being The Candidate The ideal candidate will possess patience, resilience, and a proactive approach to supporting young people with SEMH needs. Previous experience in behavior management, working with pupils with challenging behaviors, or within an educational or youth support setting is advantageous but not essential. A positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a genuine desire to make a difference are key qualities.
