We are seeking an experienced Traffic Signals Engineer to lead the design, delivery, and optimisation of signal-controlled junctions and crossings across the local network. You will play a key role in improving traffic flow, safety, and network efficiency while supporting wider transport strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and review traffic signal schemes using industry standards (e.g. MOVA, SCOOT, UTC systems)
Manage projects from feasibility through to implementation and post-installation review
Analyse traffic data to optimise signal timings and network performance
Oversee maintenance, upgrades, and fault resolution of signal assets
Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders, including elected members and the public
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and health & safety requirements
Contribute to transport planning initiatives and smart mobility projects
Skills and Experience:
Proven experience in traffic signals engineering within a local authority or consultancy
Strong knowledge of UK standards (e.g. TSRGD, DfT guidance)
Experience with signal design tools and modelling software
