Senior Accountant Chelmsford £38,000 - £45,000
An established and growing accountancy firm is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Chelmsford office. Working with a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses and SMEs, this role will suit an experienced practice accountant who enjoys hands‑on client work, building strong client relationships, and supporting the development of junior team members within a collaborative and forward‑thinking environment.
Role Responsibilities
* Managing a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring all financial reporting and submissions are accurate and compliant.
* Preparing and submitting year‑end accounts, corporation tax computations, VAT returns, and confirmation statements.
* Building and maintaining strong client relationships, acting as a trusted point of contact.
* Managing client expectations and leading meetings to finalise accounts.
* Supporting and mentoring junior team members through training and guidance.
* Reviewing client deliverables including accounts, tax, PAYE, and VAT work to ensure deadlines are achieved.
* Handling client queries professionally and providing clear, practical advice.
* Assisting with improving internal processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
* Maintaining high standards across client files and compliance work.
Personal Requirements
* ACA, ACCA or AAT qualified or nearly qualified.
* Strong experience working within an accountancy practice environment.
* Proficient with accounting software and systems.
* Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior staff members.
* Excellent communication and client management skills.
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
* Self‑motivated, adaptable, and committed to delivering a high level of client service.
