An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Nurse Manager to join our team within the cancer division, the post will be managing the haematology and oncology day units at Royal Sussex County and Princess Royal Hospitals
This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate as we move towards planning for the opening of our new cancer hospital which is forecast for 2028.
Main duties of the job
To provide clinical excellence, leadership, innovation through highly developed specialist knowledge of haematology / oncology and systemic anti cancer treatments.
Providing specialist information and support for patients and carers attending the day units and being cared for in the acute setting.
The role requires sensitive communication to support patients with and their families through treatment pathways

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. This is a cross site working role, the unit manager will work between the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and Princess Royal in Haywards Heath
Regularly interact with patients/ carers / relatives and all identified on list of key working relationships.
Provide highly complex information to patients / carers about all aspects of treatment (drug therapy, venous access devices, side effects management). Using the highest level of communication and interpersonal skills and ensuring that the information is in easily understood language.
Lead in the implementation of quality initiatives that improve patient care
Lead on agreed areas and projects.
Attend and participate in nurse meetings.
Lead Patient First Huddles.
Act as role model at all times.
Support the team to monitor the quality of patient care and participate in the regular evaluation of patient satisfaction.
Lead on the identification of areas for change and development.
Work across site if needed at times of clinical demand or unforeseen absences

Essential criteria
2. NMC Registered Adult Nurse
3. Educated to Degree level/professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma supplemented by specialist training, experience, masters modules
4. Specialist qualification in Cancer or related qualification experience or experience
5. Evidence of continued professional development
6. Evidence of leadership development/ qualification
7. Significant experience within band 6 nursing or above.
8. Experience of multi-professional and cross organisational working
9. Experience of breaking bad news, or support difficult conversations
10. Experience of dealing with highly sensitive issues, conflict and difficult situations
Desirable criteria
11. Psychological Assessment training Level 2

13. Relevant senior post-registration experience in cancer
